The delivery of Unexpected Guest to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute was a major milestone for Tommyboy Hobbies and a true honor for Tom’s work as a scale model artist. After months of research, detailing, lighting integration, and custom diorama construction, the F-117A Nighthawk model was personally delivered to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum for permanent display in the Air Force One Pavilion.
One of the most memorable moments of the trip was bringing the model outside for photographs in front of the actual F-117 aircraft, Unexpected Guest, creating a powerful connection between the real aircraft and the handcrafted tribute built in its honor. The project showcased Tom’s dedication to historical accuracy, immersive storytelling, and museum-quality craftsmanship.
The experience was both exciting and humbling, representing not only the completion of a significant project, but also the recognition of Tommyboy Hobbies’ work at a national museum level. Special thanks were given to Derek Lyneis and the museum staff for helping make the display possible.
The delivery of Black Devil to the Palm Springs Air Museum marked another exciting milestone for Tommyboy Hobbies and continued the growing recognition of Tom’s museum-quality aviation models. The custom F-117A Nighthawk diorama was created to honor the history and legacy of the legendary stealth aircraft, combining detailed craftsmanship, lighting effects, and historically accurate presentation into a display piece designed to capture attention and tell a story.
Seeing Black Devil placed on display within the museum alongside iconic military aircraft was both rewarding and surreal. The project reflected countless hours of research, painting, detailing, and assembly, all aimed at creating an immersive tribute worthy of the aircraft’s history and the pilots who flew it.
The museum display reinforced Tommyboy Hobbies’ commitment to preserving aviation history through scale modeling and highlighted how these handcrafted pieces can connect enthusiasts and museum visitors alike with the stories behind the aircraft.
What started as a passion for aviation has evolved into a refined craft. For Tom, a model is more than just a replica; it represents a historical narrative conveyed through detail. Each airplane model kit is meticulously researched, designed, and hand-assembled to capture a specific moment in time.
From the weathering of the fuselage to the precision of the cockpit, every model is constructed to tell a story about its unique place in history—honoring the pilots who flew them and the engineering that defined an era. Tom’s work reflects a balance of technical precision and a genuine love of flight, resulting in museum-quality pieces meant to be displayed with pride. Several of his custom builds have even been selected for display in aviation museums, a testament to the authenticity, craftsmanship, and historical respect behind each project.
Specializing in 1/32 and 1/48 scales, these model kits are crafted for fellow aviation enthusiasts, museums, and collectors who appreciate accuracy as much as the legacy behind the wings.
